Hi there! My name is Jess Kress and I run the Jersey City Moms Network, a site dedicated to sharing events and resources around our city. I spent 10 years in New York and made the move over with my now husband about 5 years ago in search of more square footage in an apartment. I quickly fell in love with the downtown community and all it had to offer: great art, new bars and restaurants and exciting new growth.
My husband and I had our little dude in the fall of 2018 and I quickly realized I knew nothing about the mom/child community other than it was growing rapidly. A friend recommended The Local Moms Network and upon finding that there wasn’t one for Jersey City yet, I jumped at the opportunity. It has been an amazing ride and I am meeting some of the most wonderful moms, business owners and friends, and finding out about all of the great things our city has to offer our little ones along the way!
What do you like about being a mom?
I’ve always wanted to be a SAHM and although it was an adjustment at first, as I tend to be a workaholic, I have to say, it’s the most rewarding thing. There are too many things I LOVE, I guess the way his face lights up when he sees me and knowing that I am raising a little one to have a positive impact on our world are at the top.
What is your favorite Mommy & Me
Does happy hour count? (I kind of joke). I genuinely enjoy taking him around with me everywhere and started doing so at a very young age, as I wanted him to be comfortable in social settings. As I didn’t know any moms locally when he was born, I started a Mom Happy Hour and it was really a great way to meet some women around town. Now he’s too big and needs room to run around, but I met some great mom friends! I love taking him swimming at Pershing Pool, The Little Gym and look forward to doing art classes with him soon.
What is your favorite spot to go for a family or date night?
Fortunately, my favorite spots accommodate children so they work for either! I find most restaurants in Jersey City are child friendly, you just need to keep an eye on them. I’m a big fan of Corto and Low Fidelity, both on Palisade. During the summer I love taking Beau down to The Lutze as they have plenty of space for him to run around while Mamma has a cocktail, and you cannot beat the view!
You have a full day off, what do you do?!
SLEEP! I would definitely sleep in a little and have coffee in bed. Then off to take Tramp Stamp class at Jane DO and brunch with friends at Latham House. I’d tackle finally putting our office together (we just moved), happy hour at Low Fidelity, dinner at Corto and then home to wine and a good book. That just sounds heavenly
Thank you for checking out this bio and as I am a new mother, I love finding out about new places and activities for babies through teens, so please hook a girl up!
